Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being." The word refers to having a meaningful direction or purpose in life, constituting the sense of one's life being made worthwhile, with actions (spontaneous and willing) taken toward achieving one's ikigai resulting in satisfaction and a sense of meaning to life.

A little background from this old man's own life:
It took me a long time to realize that I am actually quite able to simply BE happy, this remains true in most life situations - even if/when I am surrounded by (emotionally) miserable folks.

What gave me the connection between happiness and ikigai was when I found info based upon studying performed by Dan Buettner, National Geographic Fellow and New York Times bestselling author.

There is great interest in this subject, and many folks do have desires for much longer lives.

Speaking once again only for myself:
Now, as ever - I have no specific desire to live to be very, very old - BUT=>
I do have a strong desire to have a happy and good life while here.

Perhaps some of the pointers shared here may help others to find their own version of Ikigai !!
