Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. It was taught in India more than 2500 years ago as a universal remedy for universal ills, i.e., an Art of Living. For those who are not familiar with Vipassana Meditation, an Introduction to Vipassana by Mr. Goenka and related videos and Questions and Answers about Vipassana are available.



The technique of Vipassana Meditation is taught at ten-day residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. There are no charges for the courses - not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit.

bro this course was absolute free ( food and place ) ... around the world, listening this sure you wont get benefit , better attend the course , it was a beautiful course , i was attended this 2 years back, still practicing. In one sentence , i can say - live your life now ( practical way to get book essence of "power now")

I am holding back with only one question in mind: how can I sit still for 10-14 hours a day for 10 days at a stretch?

Is there some other way i.e. a short course (1-2 days to begin with) of doing this
thing?

thanks for your curiosity learn this wonderful and purest form of meditation, when i was heard abt vippasana ,i thought same like you , how can i spend 10 days by simply sitting for 10 hours and one more thing you may know or not you cant speak with any one up to 9 days , i felt that was hardest part.let me give you simple expl
1. you sit only 6-8 hours (upto your convenience, first 2-3 days u feel uneasy from day 5 -10 you will get calm mind you never seen your life before ,thats the beauty of vipassana),
2. reason for 10 days had definite purpose,(i can tell you in one line , but once you realize by yourself the value will be life long )
3.most of the problem arise because you are constantly talking to your mind right , this is the only tool i know , (ie means i tried a lot) shut up your mind and live the presence , that is the reason it took some more time , rest of the yoga gurus will teach you only exercises , that not help you to understand your mind , this tool will definitely help you , i feel 10 days also not enough to get 50% your result. but you can made solid foundation on your mind you have resistance to any kind of disbelief you had. and grt thing was you can shut your mind .
