I watched the whole course as well:

Some good tips on researching Themes and seeing what others are doing. However the design amounts to a very crude markup showing where frames will be on the theme and then outsource to have the actual design done.

Once you have the design you outsource yet again to have the Theme and any plugins developed.

So if you are looking for something that shows hands on design and develop then look elsewhere.

But like I said he does give some good methods to search existing themes etc to see what you want.
