ok here's a noob question like no other!! ... they have a $25 set up service.. .since I don't see myself ever setting this up
on my own.. do you think I could get away with buying that?

ha.. or am I just being brain dead.. and learn how on youtube?

I think you need to setup email setting first. Change it to your paypal email or create new with cpanel.

So it must be installed in the root directory? Another directory won't work? What about a subdomain?

Also the security protect for ''product page'' is very bad . Very easy to steal the content .See the picture below:

Yes, it work for me. For the product link, you can delete the original link. and upload the product to your own hosting. Then create own your download link.
