I've had Yoga for Men Only for over 20 years, and love everything about it; the exercises, the illustrations, the goofy and bizarre case histories, the claims of "secrets passed down from generations of secret Indian Yogis", etc. Without hesitation, I grabbed it, brought it inside and paid my dollar.

The book is everything that you'd expect from a follow up to Yoga for Men Only. Secrets from the "Zohar" passed down through generations of Yogis, claims of being able to "heal with a touch", "surpass rivals in any competition", be as "powerful as five men your size", 'Pour out words you never heard before, even in another language", 'transform yourself into other people, right before their eyes!", "lead or even face a million men!"

And then there are the incredible case histories of people whose lives were transformed by these simple exercises, gaining incredible success, the partners of their dreams, transforming their 'flabby, tired bodies' into mountains of "peaking muscles, and bulging back muscles and zooming biceps!"

All of this would be relegated to the dustbins if it was not for the actual exercises; amazing, simple, bodyweight and isometrics that i've never seen anywhere else, that feel great and work. And of course we get the incredible, baffling names that could have come from a 1950s sci fi flick; "The Wing Torso Bile Pumper", ""The Keenest Mass Reflex Potential Trigger", the "Dorsal Fulcrum Dominator!" the "Biceps Adrenal Tension Exploder". These books, and this author, are one of a kind. The actual biological and physiological explanations are scientific, clearly explained amidst the hyperbole, and seem anatomically correct. (From what I understand, Young was a chiropractor, as is evidenced by his impressive knowledge of anatomy, and the glandular systems). As I did with YFMO, I typed out the exercises, put them into my workout binder, tried them one at a time, picked the ones I liked and put them into my own daily program.

I should add that I don't feel these exercises alone would constitute a complete fitness program. To me, they work better as an adjunct to my other programs. They don't, for instance, include the flexibility of yoga, the cardio of running or rope jumping, or the strength of serious bodyweight exercises like matt furey's book. Although I avoid weights, I also enjoy some light kettlebell work. For me, these seem to work more for postural issues, toning, energy, etc, more along the lines of chinese internal exercises, or in some ways, the dynamic tension exercises of Muscle Control, by Maxick. I deal with occasional sciatica, and these are some of the few exercises I can do when I'm sore and need to be careful. I also find they help the healing process move more quickly. If you've done a lot of working out, you might find that you need to do more reps than Young recommends. (Especially with the YFMO book). 5 arm circles won't cut it if you're used to hour long workouts.

These books are unique and priceless. Although you might not be able to "achieve the strength of a lion", you will get great benefits from the exercises, and great entertainment from the read. I wish I could find more biographical info on Frank Young. It's a shame these books are out of print. I'd like to see all of them (I think he wrote about 12), reissued as a set. I'd be first in line to buy them.
