I won't pretend that I've read this book completely. In fact I've only skimmed a few chapters. What I got from those, however, is something like "It didn't work for me, so it cannot possibly work for anyone."

The author tried to raise money for something non-profit and was surprised when not one of his millions of followers donated anything. Well, guess what? People like their money and most of them want to keep it or spend it on something nice. Or maybe the followers simply weren't targeted?

The fact that this man failed to get anyone to donate anything isn't a failure of social media - it's only his own failure.
There are websites like Indiegogo where crowdfunding works perfectly well, mostly through social media.
There is content on the web that goes viral and gets millions of views, mostly through social media.
That is undeniable proof that social media can actually get you clicks and/or money.

If social media doesn't work for you, there's something wrong with your marketing efforts, NOT with social media.
