If you have an Amazon account and buy e-books to read on your Kindle device, chances are you may want to do things with your purchases that are restricted due to Kindle's DRM (Digital Rights Management). You know, things like reading them on another non-Kindle device ... or print them out ... convert it to another format, such as a neat little PDF package to upload and happily share with your BBHF friends.

But you've got to follow specific instructions that are not for the faint-hearted. You can read the details on the website above or follow them below...

STEP 1: Find your Kindle Serial Number (KSN) and put it into this online tool.
On your Kindle Fire device, tap "Menu" icon on the home screen; choose "Settings" and tap the "Menu" icon again. Choose "Device Info" to find your Kindle device's serial number. It will show up beside KSN (Kindle Serial Number).

There is an alternate way to find it.

Go to:
http://www.amazon.com/mycd and check the "Device" tab. There you can find the KSN of all the Kindles registered to your Amazon account.

NOTE: You will need to input the 16 digits, no spaces or hyphens or you will get an error message.

STEP 2: Upload the eBook files
It is recommended that you connect Kindle to your computer with a USB cable and load the eBook files from Kindle's storage. Then you just wait for the uploading process to complete. When you see "Download" then the book is already DRM-free and you can download it to your computer.

Not exactly for the faint-hearted but not rocket science, either. It just takes a little extra time and a scoop of elbow grease.

LAYNA'S DISCLAIMER: I have the paid program version so I have never used the online tool and can't vouch for it's effectiveness --- but it's ePubor so it should work as well online as it does as an executable. Give it a try and see if you like the results.
