Much of NLP is based on the foundation work/teaching of Milton Erickson. If you are interested in learning about how to better understand yourself and also influence others, then study of this and other NLP material is good stuff to have in your library.

No easy to find a lot of this, so while you have the chance, get it, read it, use it, and I am sure you will see a difference in your results.
