Here's a back-story about how I got suddenly interested in feng shui that will make you laugh:

Little less than a month ago, I read an interesting article on feng shui in a popular women's magazine.

I'd heard of it before but it never held much interest for me. Until I learned it could be applied to impact one's wealth and prosperity.

This article showed a bagua map of the areas of a home with the corresponding 9 areas; namely:

*** Wealth and Prosperity
*** Fame and Reputation
*** Career
*** Knowledge and Self-Cultivation
*** Health and Family
*** Love and Marriage
*** Children and Creativity
*** Helpful People and Travel
*** The Center (hub which connects all the other parts)

Anxious to put what I'd learned into practice, I quickly matched the areas of the bagua map to the rooms in my own home. I focused on locating my Wealth and Prosperity area, which seemed to be my dining room. I read that these areas can extend to any outdoor areas on the property so my front and back yards were extensions, in some cases.

I wondered if my backyard patio played a role --- it was just outside the dining room wall. I wished I had a hotline number to call the article's writer because at the time, I'd had questions and wanted to know more.

Giddy with delight, I quickly found some items tucked away in the bottoms of drawers that the article said I should display in my Wealth and Prosperity area for good fortune.

I grabbed some silk flowers because they were bright red with purple accents. A quartz crystal I purchased almost a decade ago caught my eye along with a miniature brass statuette of Buddha. These were prominently placed in areas of my dining room. I also found wind chimes that were a delight to listen to but there was nowhere to hang them in my dining area.

Then I forgot about feng shui and went off to buy groceries and do my daily chores.

Imagine my surprise when a day later, I get a call from a close relative I speak with fairly often. She called to say she'd come into a small windfall and wanted to share some of the money with me.

"Wow!" I thought to myself, "this feng shui stuff is serious!"

She asked I wanted the funds wired over or sent in a check. I tried to down-play my excitement (it was a pretty tidy sum) so I said a check by mail would be fine. Besides, we were on a phone that I swear has bugs in it. Constant pops and clicks while we're talking and sometimes even a little unexpected background noise. So while it would have been easier to have the funds wired, I was reluctant to discuss anything about my financials over the phone.

She explained the money would be sent via a cashier's check and by certified mail. It will arrive in 3 to 5 business days and I was to call her when I got it, to confirm everything went as planned. I thanked her for her generosity and our discussion turned to other topics.

All along, I kept thinking about that article in the magazine. Could this be happening? My logical side stepped in to over-rule my enthusiasm to crown feng shui as something magical. It's just a coincidence, it warned.

Feng shui ... "dang fuey!"

Besides, the editors of those magazines have to fill their pages every month with some kind of content. Any content!

Still, I was hoping against hope that this was really working; that the sudden unexpected money just dropping into my lap had everything to do with feng shui.

Yet, something about it felt "off." I wasn't convinced I'd done it right.

Anyhow...

Several days later, I searched online for items to buy to adorn other areas of my house. The Helpful People and Travel section would get attention next if I could just prove this was all related.

The day I was supposed to get the money gift came ---- and went.

"Do you think it was stolen and someone will try to cash it?" I frantically asked my relative over the phone.

She was confident nothing had happened. Especially after she'd confirmed with the bank that it had not cleared and the post office said it was still showing up in their tracking.

The problem with the tracking is that while it showed up as being en route from day one; it had never left my relative's home town post office.

By now, we had the postal service looking into it. The bank recommended we give it more time before deciding to put a stop payment on it.

Later that night, I revisited the feng shui article and was shocked to find out I had not accounted for a certain hallway that divided my rooms, essentially putting my Wealth and Prosperity area in a completely different zone!

It wasn't my dining room. My Wealth and Prosperity area was my kitchen!!!!!

Then it dawned on me why my money gift was being held up: my feng shui was all wrong.

Quickly, I moved the things from the dining room into the kitchen.

My quartz crystal was suspended on a gold cord from the light fixture above my kitchen window. I hung the airy wind chimes in the adjacent corner of the window. The red and purple silk flowers looked classy in a crystalline vase near my kitchen sink. I sat the brass statuette of Buddha in the breakfast nook.

I breathed a sigh of relief. Now I've got it!

It just felt right.

Two more days passed before the postal service emailed me with information about the envelope. They'd located it and it was no en route to its destination.

Two days later, the envelope arrived.

Everything was in-tact and there was no evidence of tampering.

It arrived a whole week late but better late than never.

I called my relative to confirm that I finally received her very generous gift.

My relative explained that she'd gone in person to the post office and spoke to an administrator, who said they get lost and stolen mail claims all the time but this was weird. It was as if an invisible hand had lifted the envelope and held it in suspension.

Like in a Twilight Zone.

We chatted a moment longer and as I turned to look out of the kitchen window, I squinted at the glint of light from the dangling crystal and how the sun played on the brass wind chimes.

I looked over at the Buddha statuette while the voice on the other end of the line talked on about the breaking news: one of her best friends was thinking about calling off her wedding...

As for me, I felt happier than I had in a while.

I waited for a pause in her gossip to maybe share my feng shui story but as I thought more about it, I decided ...

Nahhhhh ... she wouldn't believe it anyway!

Well coincidence or not, things like this happens and usually it happens for a reason.

And I'm glad it ended up positively for you. Because I've chinese friends who wouldn't simply meddle with feng shui just by reading couple of books or newspaper articles.
