RE: [GET] How to Self-Publish Your Book and Have the Fun and Excitement of Being a Best-Selling Author
@All: You're welcome. I hope you thoroughly enjoy the share. I plan to.

==========

I love being of service to others on this forum but this is something I feel I need to say:

As you can see, this book was originally shared almost 2 years ago. It had over 500 "views" (which I translate to mean downloads most of the time) and NO ONE bothered to provide a mirror.

NOT ONE PERSON!

This is happening more and more on this forum. People come to get what they want and simply disappear. Until next time.

Then comes the flurry of re-up requests.

I have re-upped this in the hope that someone will mirror it (at some point along the way) for others.

It takes a nano-second to post "please re-up" but just to give you some idea of what that involves (for me) ... here is what I did last night in order to make this share possible. You might call this Layna's 12-Step Program for Re-Upping a Share. If you don't have time (or care) to read all the details, I can't blame you. Just glance over the bolded words to understand what all is involved.

1. LOOK FOR IT. I always check the files on my computer drive to see if I have what is being requested. I also check the 5 TB external hard drive attached to it ... if I find what is requested and can share it right away, I try to do that.

2. SEARCH FOR IT. This particular book wasn't on my drives and I realized it was something I wanted. So I set about to find it online. I spent nearly 20 minutes searching every which way I could to find a download link but I could only find it on Melvin Powers's website or on a course download site that charges a discounted price but at any rate --- it was at cost.

Just before I gave up, I thought to go to archive.org ... and Eureka! I found it! Happydance

HINT: Should something happen to the download links I provided and no one mirrors this (quite possible) then, please note, archive.org is where you can find this title. But you will need to register a free account over at archive.org and borrow/return this (and other titles). You will also need to download the free Adobe Digital Editions software to even SEE the book ... this program has a strange set up for registering (I did it years ago so I can't remember the details but it was fairly intricate, as I recall). Then you will need a good software to convert it. I talk a little more about that below.

3. BORROW IT. This book wasn't available as a simple download. It was in archive.org's library so I had to log into my account there and borrow it. Luckily, I was able to do that because had the book been "out" I would have had to wait on a list. Eventually, archive.org would send me an email alert that I was up to borrow it. But that could have taken a lot more time.

4. DOWNLOAD AND CONVERT IT. I quickly downloaded it but this book was in the Adobe Digital Editions proprietary format. I have ADE on my computer just for this purpose but I don't like HAVING to use a particular reader when I want a PDF. Similar to Amazon's Kindle AZW format, you can only read ADE books on their platform. Thank goodness I have ePubor Ultimate desktop on my computer. This reliable, "bad-boy" software quickly and easily strips the Digital Rights Management (DRM) from an e-book (it even works for other formats like Nook, etc.) and allows me to convert the format to PDF, ePub, Mobi or Text! So, I converted it to a PDF then dragged that format onto my desktop --- because there were a few more things I had to do before I could share it on the forum.

5. RETURN IT. Since I "borrowed" the original e-book, I still had to return it to archive.org. So I clicked the button to do that and it cleared up any outstanding loans on my account. Then, with no further need for archive.org at the time, I logged out.

Great! I now had the book ... and my WORK was just beginning.

6. UPLOAD IT. I uploaded the converted e-book to a couple of file share servers (namely, mediafire and solidfiles), in the hopes that the links will last longer than a zippyshare one. Plus, I like giving people options whenever I'm able to. If you can't use or don't like one download site, use the other! So it took a little more time to do a double upload.

7. GRAB AND SAVE THE DOWNLOAD LINKS. I next grabbed the download links to put into a notepad doc (which is what I use to compose my posts in their entirety). I am sure to name the Notepad++ file and save it so that when the rest of my post is ready, I can put the download links in the MAGIC BUTTON using the code to do that.

8. COMPOSE THE POST. I had to write the copy for the post and that takes the most time. I try to include the sections READ MORE HERE, GET IT HERE, VIRUS TOTAL and the disclaimer statement that someone else using my post lifted it from BBHF to use elsewhere (it's happened a lot). I also grab graphics (usually a scaled down image of the book cover or a graphic I find on the web that is appropriate for the post) and upload those to my Jing account. Then from there, I grab the URL of the image so that those pictures will display where and how I want them in my finished post.

Lastly, I grab (copy/paste) everything I write in Notepad++ and dump it into the forum's text editor. It takes me a little more time to pore over the details (like using the text features and settings ... making sure the opening/closing image tags are right ... checking my spelling/grammar ... etc.) until my post looks like I want it to.

I know I don't NEED to go to these lengths but I pride myself on creating posts that are attractive to read, easy to understand (although that sometimes that backfires on me due to TMI --- too much information) and simple to use.

9. DO A VIRUS TOTAL SCAN. Whenever I upload files to share (not direct download links) I do my best to follow forum protocol and provide a VT scan. The only times I don't (again, besides sharing dozens of direct links from the owner's site) is when the files are too large for Virus Total to handle them ... even then I stress how important it is for you to do a local scan. Sometimes, I describe how to do that (for newbies). That wasn't necessary in this share. So, I had to add the VT scan results to my post.

10. DO A FINAL EDIT. This is nothing more than clicking the PREVIEW POST button on the forum's text editor window and looking over the post to see if I need/want to make any changes. To be honest, I do this a LOT before hitting the POST REPLY because I don't like having to edit my posts after people have seen them if I can avoid doing that.

11. POST THE SHARE. When I'm happy with what I see, I click the POST REPLY and then look it over one last time as a published post. Then violĂ  ... it can be enjoyed by my forum friends ... and others.

12. CONTACT THE PEOPLE REQUESTING THE SHARE. Yes, I do this all the time as a courtesy. I make a quick list of the users who asked for the share and then grab the URL for my post I just made. I then go compose a Private Message to these people, along with the link back to the forum thread. If I feel the download may soon expire for any reason (ex: the links keep being reported as dead on the thread) then I urge them to grab the share ASAP.

@taildive777 and needlechi: You're welcome, friends. Thanks for getting back to me; I am glad you were able to get the download.

All in all, I could have just posted a download link and be done with it --- but this is how I do it.

So, next time you need a re-up, consider that it's not as easy as that. It doesn't have to be as involved as I do it but, still, it takes time, energy and resources.

If you've ever posted a REQ or asked for a mirror ... ask yourself how often have you provided a share or mirrored someone else's share for others. Or even posted to help someone solve a problem ... anything.

It's as simple as this: you get what you give.
