This is a tactics WIDELY used in my country!

I'd say that 99% of all DISCOUNTS are fake. Sad but true! They raise the price before holidays and then sell the stuff at "discount" prices...i.e. original prices. When you call them out, they direct you to marketing department and other BS departments.
