Will this be as effective as his pre-BMR-incident efforts were, at getting traffic to the site? Doubt it but who knows, a lot of a site's competitors will also be affected by Google's volatility.
He uses some decent quality unique content as the foundation for the site, then uses a curation approach to add more content with less effort.

I'll buy because of the potential for upgrades; I like the way he thinks.
