Quote:The present volume presents three documents already in the public domain, all of which are critical to an understanding of alleged global warming. The first contribution from Senator Inhofe, is the transcript of a speech given to the US Senate in 2006, in which he outlines the spin put by the media onto the story of global warming. He effectively demolishes the myths about climate change which have been deliberated foisted on the public by the IPCC and a relatively small clique of climatologists. But it is the media which must bear the brunt of criticism for spinning doomsday scenarios ad nauseum, the best example being Al Gore's disreputable attempt through a book and a movie, An Inconvenient Truth. Using now discredited data from Michael Mann in the so-called Hockey Stick graph, he predicts sea level rises beyond comprehension within our lifetime produced by warming of the planet. This is spin beyond the call of duty, because even the IPCC have been predicting rises of millimetres in the next hundred years rather than the metres Gore predicts. Linking this alleged rise to CO2 emissions, Gore condemns cheap energy from coal-fired power stations, despite the fact that there is no causal connection. CO2 is a very mild greenhouse gas, and the effect is in fact dominated by water vapour in the air and clouds (or water aerosol). Inhofe marshals his facts assiduously in his speech, which is fully illustrated with examples of media spin and hype. The second contribution is also from the House, but this time from a Congressional committee which reports the views of no less than 400 distinguished climatologists and scientists who dissent from the conclusions and work of the IPCC. Their testimony refutes utterly the notion of a consensus among scientists about first whether global warming is happening at all, and second whether coal burning is contributing to the alleged warming. In fact, the earth has been cooling since about 1998, and we have not seen any of the dire IPCC predictions occur at all. The worst disasters have been tsunamis and earthquakes, neither of which are linked to CO2 in the air. The final contribution is from a scientist, Roy Spencer, outlining a simple climate model, which again refutes the idea that the small degree of warming over the last century is related in any way to CO2 levels. This book is a must-read for anyone trying to understand the debate over global warming, and is highly recommended.
