As constant innovators in the fitness tracking space, DailyBurn created fitness revolution in December, a variety of streaming video workouts that stray away from the traditional fitness DVDs. It tailors to the individual, giving them a custom, personalized video workout program and nutrition advice that they can do wherever they go, available in their on their computers and Android phones.

“People want to know what to do and want to stay motivated and DailyBurn streams the best workout for you,” said Andy Smith, CEO. “These super, high-quality workouts are constantly changing, they’re interactive because we don’t want you to be bored,” he said. “Being bored is kind of the problem with other technology now.”

Unlike the monotonous workouts featured in most fitness DVDs, these streaming workouts are unique each and every time. Smith expresses that the real cool thing behind DailyBurn is what they call Intellliburn. “Intelliburn basically takes all this information about you—what your goals are, your skills, your fitness level, your aspirations and comiles for you, based on our touch algorithms, the best workout for you,” he said excitedly.

DailyBurn does not put users in a bucket with a bunch of other people, as they’re constantly optimizing and learning about each user’s lifestyle so they can strategize a plan to keep them coming back. “We take users’ feedback to help us create new content,” said Mason Bendewald, Director and VP of Production for DailyBurn and one of the premier directors of fitness for ten years (i.e. P90X). “DailyBurn puts the power of fitness back into users’ hands, which is the most exciting part,” he continues.

An important aspect of working out is having a good trainer to make users feel like they're supported. Both Bendewald and Fitness Program Director, Lisa Wheeler, chose and trained the diverse master trainers DB6—who as humble individuals as opposed to stars is much more organic. Each trainer brings their own fitness philosophy to the table training users in everything from metabolic conditioning, joint mobility, yoga, cardio, Pilates to kickboxing.

“It’s about having a good time and entertaining people while they’re working out. That’s my goal,” said Bendewald. “Workouts come right to your living room, you don’t have to worry about being stuck with a trainer, you can choose who you want with this system.”

As the Fitness Program Director, and the mastermind behind many recognizable fitness brands, such as the Biggest Loser and Jillian Michaels, Wheeler was needed to help Bendewald make sure that this idea was sound. She utilized all of the experience she gained from traveling the world and meeting training instructors to guide the trainers, ensuring that they were technically sound and to develop all areas, creating the overall scheme of what the videos would be. “I love that I am able to do my dream,” said Wheeler. “These high-quality fitness workouts are where it’s going, not where it has been.”

Challenges were created for users to do before every workout to test their individual limits and help users gain points, such as the Burpee challenge, where users drop into a push up and jump right back up as it calculates how many they can do before the time is up. The graph on the screen allows users to type on and share with other people working out at the same time, encouraging, challenging and learning from each other. This system is less about tracking every little element and more about doing.

“The great thing about DailyBurn is that there is a modifier, which I was using,” said Cheri Fogleman, one of the female demonstrators. “If users feel that they cannot power through they have the option to modify the level half way through. “

The web community is also a great way for users to spend less time calculating things, giving them a more real experience. The website is a platform of healthy choices where users can communicate with one another and get advice, such as a customized diet based on their responses to specific questions. According to Kate Brown, Community Director, they wanted to give users guidelines to meet and a global goal each week. “The workouts may be tailored, but everyone is in on the goal/challenge together,” said Brown. There is also a Q&A section, with a layout similar to Facebook, that makes it beneficial for users to get through each workout—not to mention the incentive of getting points each time they do an action.

“DailyBurn is the future, it’s a game changer,” said Bendewald. “It’s really going to change the industry of fitness.” And everyone, especially Smith, couldn’t agree more. “We’re super excited about this," said Smith. "We’re here to change the world and we think that there’s a great technology here. And we practice what we preach; we do these workouts all the time.”

So far, DailyBurn has received great feedback and are in the process of planning a second series. For $9.99 a month, it’s worth giving DailyBurn a try because according to Smith, ‘Once you start it’s addicting and you won’t have excuses anymore.’
