DMSO can be difficult for some folks in various ways starting from the fact that it is mostly sold as either a solvent or for use on horses, and that much of what is sold is not pure - and finally, it has to be used correctly or it can be frightening for some folks.
(MSM is its close cousin and much easier to use...)

@smithnowt is exactly right. I trained horses for many years and pure DMSO is very powerful. If it is pure it will freeze at about 40 degrees F. 1 drop of pure DMSO placed in your hand will move to your taste buds in about 5 seconds. Use VERY carefully.

There is just a single detail one MUST be attentive to, which is the MINIMUM labeled purity of 99%.

Most horse supply - tack shops - feed stores sell some, but lots of it is under 99% purity.

One good source is actually the Tractor Supply stores in their equine section.
They have the liquid pints, a small roll-on and a really good gel.
That last is made from 99% pure which composes 90% of the gel's volume owing to what makes it into a gel.

It has a wonderful pain deadening ability when used on sore areas and even open wounds - though it does sting when applied, that passes quickly as just a tiny, very thin amount goes a very long way.

Lastly:
The liquid form can also be ordered via fleabay, even in gallon sizes - but so much of what comes from there is fake that I've never trusted it as a source.
