Thanks for the share SS but the title really has no bearing on the useless stuff contained inside the book. As a personal bodyguard with 18 years experience in the field, I can honestly say that if any type of security specialist/bodyguard tried to get away with the crap that's featured in the this book, you'd soon find yourself looking down on the world (dead), not to mention the principal (person you are/were protecting).

Reps added for the share anyway :)

Have you been in a real fight before? Know what it's like to be confronted by someone in front of you who wants to kill you (not often but occasionally, literally)? Before getting in to a book on self defence, you need to know what it's like to be in that fight or flight mode and when your in that mode, you need to be able to keep calm and to be able to control the adrenaline that's shooting around the body at that time. Best thing I would advise is, (1) if you can get away with it, don't fight. There's nothing good about being a dead hero who was too headstrong to walk away. It takes a far greater man to walk away from a fight than one to just get angry and fight. (2) If it comes to fighting, don't get angry, it's impossible to fight when you are angry and (3) if you can't walk away for some reason other than pride and you feel that something is going to happen, hit first and keep hitting til the guy can't get up again, at least until you have made your escape!

If your going to learn, then better to do it right. find a good martial arts instructor who is able to teach you non traditional martial arts. Learning to fight in a classroom is fine, until the time comes in the street where you have to fight and you find out that no one is going to move forward in a typical martial arts strike, hold their arm out in front of them while you block it and counter. Street fights typically last for no more than 1-2 minutes, any longer than that and you both are just playing. Hope this little insight helps. Take care and good luck :)

Agreed. Its better to walk away, I was in a fight once long back and I basically had a knee jerk reaction and was hyperventilating whole time.

RE: [GET] Bodyguards guide to street fight and self-defense: Simple and effective basic methods
A little advice from someone who has had their share of street scraps. There is a difference between self defense and martial arts. Self defense is based on the things that work on the streets, and martial arts is based on theory.

When I say theory, I am saying that a martial arts instructor will show you typical moves that you may encounter in the streets. However, you really don't know what your assailant may do.

Martial arts teaches blocks. However, you may not be able to block the punch. Your may throw your block too late or too soon. In both instances, you will more than likely get punched in the face.

Self defense teaches you to duck and move from side-to-side. No blocks! A street fight is not a movie, and you will not be in a dojo. Some so-called martial arts masters have never been a real street fight. FACT!

Do you really think street guys care if someone has a black belt in Karate or Tae-Kwon-Do? LOL.

I recommend that you check out Krav Maga and Close Quarters Combat (CQC). Both systems are simple, easy to remember, and very effective in the streets.

God bless you and take care.
