[GET] BOOK COVER DESIGN HELP FOR NO- AND LOW-CONTENT PUBLISHERS
BOOK COVER DESIGN HELP FOR NO- AND LOW-CONTENT PUBLISHERS How to Create Book Covers That Make Your Titles Fly Off The Virtual (or Actual) Shelf --- And Bring You Big Bucks! Here's news... Just because your books are no- or low-content doesn't mean you can smash together any old design for the cover... not if you expect them to sell like hotcakes! The competition for low content stuff is pretty fierce but that doesn't mean you cannot carve your own niche and make some fairly good passive income. In order to sell, your books need a cover that puts its best face forward. With all the noise in the low-content marketplace, your books need to stand out from the crowd. And assuming the interior content is high-quality and well-presented, it becomes the job of your cover to entice browsers to take a closer look... then click the BUY button to get their own copy. Just moments ago, I was asked for some advice on this via PM. Now, I'm no pro by any stretch and I don't give professional advice. When there is something I need to know, I go to the pros and my trusty old search engines bring them to me. So, recently, I asked Google to kindly help me with this and here is a partial list of resources I'm sharing with you. Check them out... The links immediately below are primarily YouTube video tutorials showing how to create effective book cover designs that turn mere browsers into buyers and if your low-content stuff isn't building your bank account, how to determine where the problem is and get it corrected. BOOK COVER DESIGN RESOURCES: Please use the slider arm in the opened window below to see all of the links. Magic Button : And if you think THAT LIST will keep you busy, just put the keywords: [low content book cover design] inside YouTube's search field and you will be inundated with helpful ideas to turn your covers into visual eye-candy that (once more, depending on the quality of your book's content) could send your book sales through the roof. ================= LAYNA'S LAGNIAPPE ================= Just for stopping by my thread, I'm adding these extra book cover design goodies... Magic Button : #2 - ENVATO TUTS+ SHORT COURSE - HOW TO DESIGN A BOOK COVER Magic Button : MY NOTES From doing the research, here is a summary of 10 quick tips I learned... Before you endeavor to design your book's cover, you should ask yourself these 3 questions: 1 - Who is the author and what is their brand? For more details, read the 99Designs.com blog post in my resources section. 2 - Does the genre have an established style? (If so, imitate it if you can, while still making it your own to incorporate your own branding such as sticking with a logo, color scheme, series title, etc.) 3 - Where will the book be sold? This impacts the design. The covers of books sold on bookstore shelves, where customers can browse and flip through it, will differ because there is a more intimate, tactile (touching) experience. For books sold online, such as Amazon KDP, the covers' text needs to be larger with a blend of colors that doesn't overpower the text because it will be displayed as a tiny thumbnail to the viewer. Other factors fall into play, so please read that Designs99.com blog post. From there, you need to gather information you will need to inform the book cover design process, so it is important to understand what goes into designing an effective book cover. 4 - Understand the Elements of a Cover - There are 3 mandatory parts of a cover: the front cover, back cover and the spine. Since we are mostly focusing on electronic books for Amazon KDP (unless you plan to do physical, paperback books as well), it isn't as critical that you learn all about the anatomy of an actual physical book but again, I suggest you go to the resources in my list on book cover design basics. 5 - Research the Market - Look at other books that are selling well in your genre, not just on Amazon but on other platforms. 6 - Choose a Design Direction - Based on what you learned in the previous step, consider a design that works for your book. 7 - Decide what the design needs to emphasize - Do you want your design to create an emotion (such as fear or dread, for horror thrillers, for example) or give off a more playful vibe (such as the innocence of a child building a sand castle, etc.). The proper use of colors, textures and graphics in your book's cover design can create the emotion or feel you want your audience to experience. 8 - Choose graphics and fonts - In your research (step 5), it pays to mimic some of the elements of other covers for books that are selling well. Learn which graphics and font styles are used for the title, subtitle, book description on the back cover. 9 - Collect feedback - Once you have a few working concepts for your book's cover design, begin with your own judgment but it is critically important to get responses from others (who represent the target audience you will sell the book to) to evaluate whether the cover design sends the right message you intend to its end users. Use that feedback to decide what, if anything, needs to be tweaked or thrown out altogether. 10 - Know what the printer needs - This step is not applicable if you are publishing electronic (e-books) only. If you are doing physical books, read the Design99.com blog post for these details. You will find links to resources that address all of these areas in my post. I hope you find something useful in this share that helps to improve your low-content book sales. VIRUS TOTAL: This scan is for the e-books in my LAYNA'S LAGNIAPPE section ONLY.
