[GET] BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED : SO WHAT'S THAT TO YOU?
BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED
So What's That to You?

After 35 years, online marketer Bill Myers recently announced his retirement from the web. You can read what he had to say here:

BILL MYERS ONLINE

https://www.bmyers.com/public/Why-Im-Retiring.cfm
.

I was a paid member at bmyers.com, off-and-on, for years. So I know its value.

I also know that, for anyone other than paid subscribers, clicking any but the few free article links on the site would return the error message: You must subscribe to see this content.

But now that Myers has retired, all that has changed --- at least for now.

If you haven't visited the link yet, here's what Myers' retirement means:

- The Bill Myers Online site has closed (as of January 1, 2020) and no new content will be added (although he hinted that he may make an occasional post to let his fans know what he's been up to);

- The site has been in "archive" mode since 1/1/2020, meaning you will be able to view the content in full (more than 3,000 articles and videos) at bmyers.com --- at no cost --- for at least 2 years without having to log into the member's area;

- The discussion area is closed so there are no ongoing conversations or interactions.

In terms of online marketing, Bill Myers is "old school." A dinosaur, actually. If you browse around his site, you will see that his posts range from near the advent of the internet's popularity (the mid '90s) and there is nothing posted after 2020. So while you won't get much modern advice, you can still find something of real value there.

For example, I enjoy viewing Myer's direct-and-to-the-point video presentations. He speaks a little garbled at times and his "southern gentleman's accent" often gets in the way of my understanding him at some points but if I need to, I simply re-watch the video and all is well. He goes into a lot of detail (which I also appreciate) while covering a lot of territory in each short presentation.

Here are some sections on the site I suggest you check out:

- Checklists
- DVD Production
- Kindle Publishing
- Photoshop Elements
- Project Examples
- Project Ideas
- Screencasts
- Subscription Sites
- Video Marketing Letter
- Video Production
- YouTube Monetization

In the Archives section, you can view (and study) the Sales Letters Bill has written over the years. Consider it free access to his marketing copy swipe file.

Below, I picked a few links to demonstrate some of the more valuable posts.

While much of the content is dated (in terms of WHEN it was posted), a lot of Myer's marketing advice is evergreen. So if you'd like to benefit from an experienced marketer's expertise, bookmark and visit bmyers.com.

Thousands of people gladly paid $9.95 a month for this content. I was one of them from time to time... and now, you can get it absolutely free. But don't put this on the back burner or you may lose out. Myers mentions that everything is openly accessible "at least for 2 years" without having to log in to the member's area. As for what that means, I'm no psychic. It could be that the entire site will be taken off-line in 2023 or he may sell it.

At any rate, you would do well to get over there while there is still time.

RE: [GET] BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED : SO WHAT'S THAT TO YOU?
@layna61524, not sure how many here will know of Bill Myers but (as you clearly know) he was one of the 'old school' direct marketing pros who made the transition to marketing on the web. The man was prolific and an absolute fountain of information.
Thanks for the share and repped as usual.
Cheers,
NoJob

RE: [GET] BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED : SO WHAT'S THAT TO YOU?
Thank you for posting, NoJob. I'm glad to have some company on the thread, actually. I was afraid nobody was reading the post but I see (by my rep stats) quite a few people liking this, so for that, I'm grateful.

Yes, Bill Myers is a great marketing mind and he was a prolific idea generator for small businesses back in his heyday.

I particularly enjoyed his posts on setting up easy-to-do businesses that had great profit potential (like some of the ones I posted links to as examples).

I enjoyed his laid-back, charming style of delivery, too.

I used to devour his information --- I painstakingly printed out every post, three-hole-punched the pages and kept them in my prized "Myers Marketing Info-
Vault" (actually a set of over-sized plastic binders). And I referred to them often.

I even purchased a DVD from his wife, Sonya, that Bill was promoting on his bmyers site. Something to do with building Art Sites, I believe it was. I still have that DVD.

Then came 2017 when I had to move unexpectedly, and somehow, poof! I lost it all.

Just a day ago, I checked his site to see what was up and (to my surprise), he had actually retired in January of last year.

I'm just happy that he's allowing us free access to his content. Not many of the young'uns here will have heard of Myers but if they're smart, they would do themselves a favor by delving into his content while it's still freely available.

No one knows what will happen after January 2023. Sounds like it might be a take-over for someone else to build on but ... in due time, he will post to let us know what's in store.

Enjoy!

SORRY I MISSED YOUR POST...

Oops! Hi there, jimmythesaint.

While replying to NoJob, I missed that you just joined the conversation. Thanks!

Yes, time flies; it's scary. I try not to think of it. Already, today, we're half-way through the month of March 2021 and it seems just yesterday, I was debating which incarnation of TVs New Year's Rock'in Eve to tune in to.

I really miss Bill Myers. And I know I'm not alone.

I'll tell you why.

I miss his unassuming, country-neighbor charm. He was relatable (to decent people). He cared.

We're all in marketing to make money; no bones about it. But Myers was a different breed. I know nothing about the man, personally, but at least, he came across as someone with heart.

Today's marketer is a dime-a-dozen. They're all pretty much the same. Big-mouth, Type A personalities. They use curse words in their copy. They flaunt their supposed wealth in your face and even call you derogatory names in the hopes that bullying you will spur you to action.

Similarly to today's TV commercials where everybody is dancing, singing or making silly jokes ... do you even recall what product was being promoted after the 3-ring-circus comes to an end?

I don't. And it has nothing to do with memory loss.

Today's marketer gets away with mindlessness whereas years back, you had to tout the virtues of a product to make the sale.

Today's new-age marketer can learn a thing or two from Bill Myers.

When retirement calls, you act. I've been retired since 2013 so I know the feeling. Still, I'm sorry to see Bill Myers leave the marketing landscape.

I wish him the best.

Thanks

Thumbs Up RE: [GET] BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED : SO WHAT'S THAT TO YOU?
Greetings Layna !!
Thanks for this great pointer.

I remember visiting his site sometime back - but did not pay to join, and moved on without.

Now that his content is wide open this would be a grand opportunity for someone who is very ingenious to grab every post from there in his offered 'print friendly format'.

What is funny about this is how he even posted about doing such things himself:

Code:
https://www.bmyers.com/public/2958print.cfm

His tool of choice in 2018 was HTTrack - which tends to grab EVERYTHING unless one knows how to tweak it up just right (which I don't !!).

RE: [GET] BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED : SO WHAT'S THAT TO YOU?
I had one of the first BETA access to membergate which was coded in coldfusion

his topics are very topical.. and his best work were his guerilla video newsletters since they also incorporated direct mail and sending out a physical print newsletter

great to see the archives and again Layna61524 thank you for bringing this up

RE: [GET] BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED : SO WHAT'S THAT TO YOU?
@jahtel: Thanks for posting to the thread. Not a lot of what you'll find on the site is evergreen but you will find a few worthwhile gems.

I suggest you skip over anything related to now-defunct software or money-making opportunities whose time has come-and-gone. Some of his posts on membership sites, self-publishing and unique small-business opportunities, I believe, may still be viable if one can re-purposed them for today's marketplace or apply them to currently available best practices.

Thanks
for reading!

RE: [GET] BILL MYERS ONLINE HAS RETIRED : SO WHAT'S THAT TO YOU?
Wow.

I remember Membergate and the likes.

Shows how long many of us have been around the internet ... Netscape Navigator and Compuserve anyone?

Bill Myers is a dinosaur and one of the greats of online marketing, membership sites and basically anything online that involved marketing and promotion ETHICALLY.

And that last bit makes a big difference especially in these days of everyone and their dog claiming to be a :high ticket guru."

I believe Bill Myers even pre-dates Jimmy D Brown, and that says a lot.

Thanks for the share and the update.

Reps given for the opportunity to travel down memory lane!
