Q. When I run it a popup asks for my email address.

You did not setup the hosts file properly because if you did there would be no popup.

There is only one active hosts file and the only one that matters at:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Default path to hosts file is: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

IMPORTANT hosts file notes:
Edit the file as administrator.

The hosts filename should be hosts and not host or host2 or anything else, ONLY "hosts" (without quotes)

It should have no extension (hosts NOT hosts.txt) - be careful if you have configured windows to hide known extensions, check the properties to be sure: The correct hosts file's type will show up as just "File".

ONLY use notepad or notepad++ (plaintext editor) and NOT word or wordpad, etc as they will save formatting in the file that will not let it work.

The biggest reason people have so much trouble with the hosts file is they do NOT follow the very simple instructions.

To test that the hosts file is working properly add the following 2 lines to it and then save:

Quote:#TEST that hosts file is working
0.0.0.0 google.com
0.0.0.0 http://www.google.com

Go to start > command prompt and type ping google.com

If hosts file is correct you will l get:
Ping request could not find host google.com. Please check the name and try again.
Remove the 2 test lines from it and save again.

If hosts file is NOT correct you get 4 replies.

Try again.

Sorry, but this software is for PC's running Windows. But, you can run Virtual Windows software on a Mac by installing the FREE VirtualBox virtualisation software, and then install a copy of Windows inside the VirtualBox software on your Mac. There are several videos on YouTube that show how this can be done.

Q. How many computers does my license allow me to use?
Each purchased license allows you to use Arbitrageunderdog on one computer. If you need multiple licenses, please contact us for a discount.

Q. I don't live in the US - can I still do this?
Yes you can. As long as you have an email address and a Paypal account, you can do this from anywhere on the planet, thanks to the unique way our software accesses Craigslist.

Q. Do I need hosting, my own web-site and all that good stuff?
No, you don't.

Q. Since I'll be the middle-man, won't I need to talk to people on the phone?
No worries, you will not be talking to anyone on the phone. All communication using this method is done via email.

Found a hosts file, edited it, rebooted. Still got the verify email popup.

I trust ratzazz's information so I knew there was something on my side of things that wasn't working.

Using a file search program, I found FOUR different hosts (not .hosts, etc.) on my system. One in a user directory, one in systems directory, etc.

I haven't added the exclusions to all the files to test yet, but you might want to look around to see if you have more than one hosts file...

Just my $0.02 worth...

Reps to OP!

I had a little trouble in that I couldn't save the hosts file...kept saying either I didn't have access or that it was read only. Then I remember that I'd toggled it to read only a while back when I'd made changes to it for another software. Untoggled read only, made the changes, saved it, toggled read only again, and the software opened up A-Ok.

Ok, so update:

I ran my first search yesterday on "logo" or "book cover" or something like that...don't remember exactly what. It ran for quite a while (a good 15 minutes or longer) when I realized I'd forgotten to toggle how many days. As a result, I was getting a ton of old listings. So I cancelled the search, and started over with only 2 days selected.

Ran for a while, but I got like only 2-3 results (was doing it for craigslist on "search all states"). Cancelled it, waited a while, and started over with a different search for a different term..."logo", I think. After 10+ minutes, I had NO results.

Went to go to craigslist directly and found that my IP has been blocked. Just got a blank web page with the following plain text message:

"This IP has been automatically blocked.
If you have questions, please email..."

With an email address listed.

So now I need to find a way to mask or change my IP.

Don't know if anyone else is having this trouble, but figured I'd put it out there as a "warning" of sorts.
