Then, MoneyMaven shared information about a great little app that can download Udemy courses from your account there to your computer. I checked it out (see post #12) and it worked like a charm.

Then, smithnowt mentioned reasons he's a little uncomfortable about using the web-based version of the app (which makes a lot of sense, for security reasons). He also shares that he uses Allavsoft to download Udemy course content.

So, I did a little 'research' and would like to share it with you.

You can get Allavsoft as a free trial (link near the bottom of this post) or for absolutely free at a site I will point you to.

The site is one of my go-to Persian download sites where you can download a LOT of stuff --- not just a good multimedia program like Allavsoft.

If you want to see ALL the stuff available to GET at this site, just erase everything after 1397 in the link URL address to be taken to the index of categories.

Click each link and you will be taken to lots of programs, softwares, utilities, graphics, etc.

Now, you won't necessarily get the latest-greatest version of a product, software, etc. all the time but you will get a fairly recent version, which is often good enough for most of us.

These Persian sites are nothing new. I wrote all about these kinds of sites in my share here:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VIRUS SCANS
... AND FALSE POSITIVES

I notice that someone posted VirusTotal links to this thread as a warning. And that's a good thing ...

But you need to know most black-hat files contain crack, patch and keygen files that are often flagged as dangerous ... even when they aren't.

And not all anti-virus program are created the same. Some are super-sensitive about these files and will sound the alarm while others do a better job of identifying the potential for real danger.

So, black-hat type files will typically drive lesser-evolved anti-virus programs nuts.

With that said, though, you should always heed any warning. Don't panic or forego a download just because it returns some scary results.

If the program is something you really, really want, here's some advice...

DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE. Look up the name of the file in the virus results to see if it could be a false positive from a highly sensitive anti-virus program.

DIG DEEPER to see what's really going on. Knowledge is power.
If your anti-virus program gives a file the go-ahead, you can (generally) be confident about it's safety.

THEN DECIDE. If you're still concerned, then don't download it. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Also, you can always use the program isolated inside a virtual sandbox (like Sandboxie) to test it out without writing to your hard drive and affecting the rest of your computer.

So, I've virus checked these files and will present you with the mixed reactions. This share is either good or bad, depending on the anti-virus program YOU use.

But first things first. To do the virus scan, I needed to go inside the archived file and run a scan on individual files. I've found that running a virus scan on archived files will not be good enough to find bugs, etc. lurking within a program file.

Here is what's inside the archived file:

You can see there's a folder named toolbar, along with the Allavsoft executable file and a keygen executable. You need to virus check those two executable files. I checked the toolbar folder there were three icons that, when clicked, take you to the p30world website for more information, if you need it, on installing a program or access to help files. So, there's nothing there you need to virus scan.

First, I did a quick local scan using my own (Avast) anti-virus and got no issues. If you don't know how to do that, just right-click on the archived folder and select the option to virus scan using the program that resides on your computer. If you get no issues, don't stop there. Double-click the archived file to reveal all the contents. Look for anything that has a file extension (.exe, .rar, etc.) and repeat the process for each one. You will be asked for a password each time you access the file (until it has been installed); I provide that information for you in the MAGIC BUTTON/download section below.

So, I opened the archived file and pulled out the individual executable files to run a scan separately on each. When I say 'pulled out' I mean I dragged-and-dropped them from the window they were in and onto my desktop. And that's because they need to be on the desktop in order for me to upload them to Virus Total.

NOTE: There was only one instance of a malicious file (something called Email.Agent.1) discovered by an anti-virus program called Antiy-AVL. All other A-V programs found this file to be clean. You can run your own local scan or look for your A-V program on the site to confirm if there are any issues.

Also worth noting: The community score for this file is -16. Not sure what that means but it may be something for you to consider in deciding on the reliability/safety.

Okay, this is the key generator file. Keygens in particular and executable (program) files, specifically, are known to give anti-virus programs a scare. So it wasn't surprising for me to see a sea of red in the virus scan results. Thirty-eight out of sixty-nine programs detected potentially malicious content in this keygen.

Do your own due diligence before deciding whether YOU should use this.

You should always virus check everything you put on your computer but especially for downloads from unfamiliar or black-hat sites; Persian download sites not withstanding. I download from Persian sites a lot and usually find bad files little more than half the time.

Which is why you should ALWAYS be running a reputable anti-virus program in real-time at all times and keep that program updated. As I've mentioned in multiple posts, Malwarebytes Premium is what I use to 'catch' attempts to infect my computer. Just downloading from zippyshare can put your computer at serious risk with all the pop-ups, pop-unders and re-directs. Malwarebytes tells me each time it blocks a site from accessing my computer or doing something (like changing things in my registry, etc.). That program, along with a good ad blocker integrated in your browser can make your online experience a dream-come-true.

So, the last step is to go to the Virus Total link I provide and view the results. Look for your anti-virus program.

My program is in the green but I'm still considering if I want to download this program. Avast isn't perfect. A day ago, I did a local scan and it found nothing. Only AFTER I tried to install the program, Avast went bonkers, screeching like a banshee ... and I nearly splashed scalding hot coffee everywhere! So, you can trust your anti-virus program ... until you can't.

I say all this to say: Use common sense.

You have to ask yourself why so many A-V programs found potential danger while so few A-V programs didn't. Could it be the green-lighted programs are better at handling suspicious files? Or the red-lighted ones are hyper-sensitive to them?

At any rate, you decide. I'm just providing a link where you can grab a relatively recent version of this program for free ... if you dare.

Terrific share, as always.

A wee bit of info about the wonderful tool Allavsoft:
1 - It needs to be regged properly to be much use;
2 - It needs to be updated often as Udemy fiddles around with stuff, or it cannot log in.
(The devs seem to make a new version every couple of weeks or less.)

The no-install version I've shared here at the forum comes with a keymaker as well.
When it is regged permanently the updating process is quite simple.

PS:
Most keygens set off virus warnings - this is to be expected and dealt with according to the user's own care and caution.

Folks have plenty of options to get local copies of their Udemy courses - and using it that way is just so much better than using their laggy site.

The only thing I use their site for is getting any course's links and other resources that the downloader doesn't grab - as it only grabs the videos.

Maybe one day one of the well known DL managers (like IDM...) might add the ability to grab an entire course with all the goodies...but it hasn't come around yet that I've seen.

One huge benefit of this tool is that it also grabs the SRT files, so when a course has been made with a speaker's crappy accent, sometimes the CC can help decipher their gibberish.
(I use the CC all the time, even when they are great and clearly spoken.)
