Thank you Brian!!!!
You are so generous and you have helped out many people, including me. Suggestion for a new course... Have you ever used Scrivener? It is a writing program from http://www.literatureandlatte.com/ You can get a free 30-day trial. I started using it for my non-fiction writing a few months ago and it does a great job with organization. I think a course on Scrivener would fit in well with all your other courses which focus on writing and publishing. Thanks again for sharing! |

RE: [GET] 21 Brian Jackson Udemy Courses ($360 -> FREE)
twotokes,
You're thinking along the same lines as myself. I just finished recording a 3 hour course on Scrivener. The problem that I keep running into with Scrivener is that though I like it's research, outlining and compiling features, it falls short on editing (e.g. it doesn't support change tracking as in Word) and formatting (it doesn't allow complex page layout as in Word). So, I recorded my course and pretty much left off with compiling a Word document to bring work into Word for formatting, editing, page layout and publication. I'm not sure if I'm happy with the result. If and when I figure out how to distribute a course for comment with full release I'll shoot you a free copy. Thanks for the suggestion, ---Brian [hr] P.S. Make that "without" full release. Oops ;-). ---Brian |

RE: [GET] 21 Brian Jackson Udemy Courses ($360 -> FREE)
Hi Brian,
Glad that we're both thinking about Scrivener. I would release your Scrivener course the way it is. I think you are trying to be a perfectionist and I think many folks, myself included, would find your course helpful. Plus, you might make some money along the way :-) As for the features that you find lacking in Scrivener: I personally do not need versioning (also called "change tracking".) I have never used this feature in Word and I am sure that most Kindle authors don't use it either. If I was working with a team of writers it would be useful, but Scrivener is designed for writers who work solo. You are right about formatting - Scrivener is designed for publishing primarily text based books, which makes it the perfect tool for Kindle. The folks who designed Scrivener never intended it to be used for laying out photo books. If you are really concerned about the lack of layout features, you could call the course, "Using Scrivener for Rapid Kindle Writing" or something along those lines. Thanks again for sharing your courses on BBHF. [quote='brianjjaxn' pid='1682559' dateline='1461616425'] twotokes, You're thinking along the same lines as myself. Twotokes,
Thanks for the reply. My Scrivener course will probably see the light of day soon in some form :-|. I've always used Word with change tracking when working with professional copy editors. I'll work around it somehow ;-). Thanks again, ---Brian |
