Forum observations and thoughts...
As one who has been a forum user for a very long time, this has resulted in exposure to lots of different ways of doing things at different places.
This leads me to observe that here, there are literally bazillions of tiny replies of thanks and bumps made to threads daily - which would seem to make for lots of storage and BW usages, I would think ?? At other forums there are simple buttons for some sort of thanks, which often add the thanking user to a list at the bottom of the thanked post and some of those places even use that as a bump automatically - which I think is altogether very, very smart. Some places have 'follow' buttons too, such that it is possible to see a list or get emails for those topics which interest you very easily, which is highly useful. In addition to being able to get a 'new posts' list - some also have a link or button that works to mark all as read, which serves to keep members getting shown the freshest content each time they return and ask for it. Specifically regarding this forum now: The email notification stuff is very sorely missed - especially those that inform about new PMs !!! Lastly: This forum is now automatically logging me out, which is very new and rather annoying too as I am the only user of my PC so having to log in more than once in a while seems quite excessive ?!? It is my hope that the mods and admin may see what I've written here and maybe even do some of these things in time - thereby making this forum even better than it already is. if you've read all that !!
I totally despise board spammers and spambots !!!

RE: Forum observations and thoughts...
I'll add that the site is sorely lacking in basic functions instructions. I just posted a "Wanted to Trade" and it just disappeared into the ether. Not showing up in my list of posts, nor in a search? There's nothing on the page concerning any procedures or rules for posting in that section. Of course it is Druid day,err...Christmas. But that has nothing to do with the lack of instructions for general use of the site or the different sections.
For instance, just did a search for "Want to Trade". There are posts from every section in the results, and only three from the WTT section, and those are almost at the bottom of the first page. Very frustrating, especially when one can figure a lot of things out with just some rudimentary instructions. Oh well. I guess that's the way it goes. |
