Yes, along with tumblr blueprint, I have shared my personal strategy on how I use integrate them in my blueprint. Each person might tend to use it differently, but my overall strategy may help some people who don't have their own seo plan to start with.

It is not PBN strictly, but my network heavily uses IFTTT ring per niche, tumblr, Press release, and Google stack site.....and I tier them heavily with a lot of google drive/cloud stacks as Tier 2/Tier 3.

Not sure why do you think so. In fact, tumblr is one of the least used platform for SEO backlinks because most people don't even know how to get a dofollow link from Tumblr. This is why it becomes even better platform to levarage.

I started this ranking experiment of google site back in April/May, I just keep observing how they perform over time. The top 2 spots are my Google stacked site, but here even the tier 1 Tumblr backlinks are ranking on page 1 and they are sticking there for last 2 months. Out of 8-10 tumblr backlinks, few are on page 2 or 3. Please note they are optimized for tier 1 linking, not to rank for page 1. Still they perfrom very well.

And this is for a term where Google maps and top/bottom advertisements are there on page 1 along with Yellowpages, Thumbtack results.
