Bulk Email Setup 4 Idiots..Where do I start??

I am looking into getting an email verifier..buying one. No luck after installing from the [GET] sections (know of any??)
SMTP free? ...I found a free open source one, but I couldn't get it setup, because it was asking for a pw that was never created.
Do I need a proxy? ...(I have no real clue what this does, but I have seen it mentioned)
Do I have to have a domain?
What am I missing?

I'm using sendblaster for emails and it's working great.

I've tried a few different email verifiers and this is the one that seems to get the job done every time. Scroll to second page and you'll see a working download link.
