4. Wait and after it verifies.

5. Your computer will begin upgrading.

Will it remove all the files that I downloaded?

No. Windows Anytime Upgrade can't upgrade previous versions of Windows to Windows 7. Windows Anytime Upgrade is designed only to upgrade your computer from one edition of Windows 7 to another edition of Windows 7.

Just read the above on Microsoft's website.

I think I will give this a go on my spare computer as I would hate to have a problem occur on my regular laptop:-(

It appeared to be working ok and after entering the serial it accepted it and proceeded to upgrade then stopped to say it could not do a Restore Point as the Restore System was turned off.

I then enabled System Restore through the registry and restarted the laptop.

I then went through the same procedure (strangely it did not ask for the serial number again) and it again appeared to working ok.

But when it finished, I had a message that the the upgrade had failed and was not done.

As it was on my spare computer, no big deal, but a shame it did not work.
