API Detective < How to detect an API usage {Both for websites and OS Apps)

Hello, BBHFreinds :)

In need of finding a solution to a problem (As always and i appreciate your shares, as always:)


The Question is:

1-) How to find out which website(s) or platform(s) an application uses?

For example:
> Let's say < that the "Longtail" app uses "Google Keyword Planner" to show the keywords results from Google database. when u run it on your own OS (win or mac, ...) it will work in background and won't show you the details about the communication between the app and the website or web app.

With that said, let say i have numbers of apps and want to check them all to see which Websites/APIs they are using.
the purpose of doing this is to find out the destination WEBSITE.

P.S << Can you suggest couple of websites that are doing this process ONLINE


1-) How to find out which website(s)'s Services an Website is using?

For example:
Let' say, whatismyipaddress.com is using maxmind.com api to detecting ip and location info, so i want to find out about this communication and integration. the purpose is to find websites like maxmind.com that are serving the whatismyipaddress.com.

P.S << Can you suggest couple of websites that are doing this process ONLINE, and giving you the answers?

you, my friend, sound like you need to meet Fiddler.

Monitors all incoming and outgoing comms on your rig (you can filter out what you want and dont want to see). It will show you all raw traffic (headers, resposnes, curl commands, API commands, etc etc) ina an easy to read format, and lets you modify them on the fly to and from your computer to the rest of the world.

This is the easiest way to pick out what API or URL-based calls are going out unseen, great for development. If this isn't quite what you need, give me a little mroe detail, i've got a ridiculous amount of dev tools i can throw out.

About this particular issue i must say:
Fiddler does more than the job which is better, but it is offline (need to install on win locally)

I'm trying to do my stuff online without installing extra apps (makes HDD messy and Speeds the OS down).
But, with mentioning the Fiddler you gave me enough idea about keywords and alternatives to this issue, now i'm digging for Similar online (cloud based) apps and when i fund something with merit, i will post it here.
If you have any suggestion on Cloud Based apps, i appreciate it forehandly, too.
