I got it all wrong - seeking advice
Hello,

This is the first time turning to a
broader audience of SEOs for help. I'm currently a student, but i
won't be for long. Because of several different reasons, it would be
very helpful if i could earn at least a bit of money soon. I'm not
totally new, in fact i've been on and off Internetmarketing for years
now and a lot of things have changed. But i'm now at a point where i
am almost completely clueless when it comes to making things work. It
seems like all i try fails miserably. Perhaps with your skills and
expertise, you can give me a small hint into the right direction.

The situation:

I own around 15 sites.

The „bad“ ones:

7 or so are tiny microniche sites with
1-5 articles and fairly new. They do nothing and i suspect they won't
do anything soon.

4 Sites are 10+ Articles. They were
outsourced. They targeted keywords are kinda stupid. Medium
competition and difficult to monetize. Also only a couple of months
old. (

I'm thinking about just writing them
off even though they cost a lot of money to build.I threw a couple of
bookmarks at them and feel tempted to only re-check them once the
domains are about to expire.

The questionable ones

1 site with 25 articles, outsourced.
Kinda OK, but only 500 word articles. Nothing done with this site so
far. Informational site. (Site 1)

1 site with around 25 articles, mostly
Reviews about a very specific topic. Keyword is very easy but only
390 unique searches according to GKT. This site got a couple of
bookmarks, a youtube link, and 3 context links from aged web 2.0s.
(Site 2)

Both sites are less than half a year
old.

Top“ Tier

1 site with 25 articles, very
micronichy, medium competition keywords with almost 2000K exact
searches a month. Mostly reviews for a certain group of low priced
items. It is over a year old and was treated with a bigger bookmark
blast, syndicated content, several manual blog comments, a small web
2.0 blast with properly spun content. But overall only like 120+
links. (Site 3)

1 Site with 35 Articles in the baby
niche (broader but not too broad). It's a year old and was treated
with only a couple of bookmarks on dripfeed (still dripping). A mix
of informational and review articles. (Site 4)

1 site in the pet niche (rather broad)
with 40 Articles. A year and a half old, with carefully crafted
Reviews and a supporting informational articles (internal linking).
The site got social media blasts, i've thrown services worth of at
least 500$ at it, built web 2.0s ...blasted them...submitted
articles, commented on blogs and got around 250 Links in
total...currently on a bookmark dripfeed to inner pages. (Site 5)

Traffic and Income

The bad ones do
not get any traffic besides refer spam.

The questionable
ones get some traffic. Site 2 got like 10 uniques or so before it was
deindexed (wtf??).

The good ones get
some traffic. Site 3 around 10-20 Uniques daily. Site 4 around 10-20
uniques daily. Some google traffic.

The only one
noticable is Site 5. Recieves 30-50 uniques daily, but ranks for no
real terms. Only recieves a couple hundred weird weird longtails (i
no nothing wrong with that).

Total income is
between 20 and 150$. Most months it's around 50$ ...most income comes
from Site 5...some income comes from site 3.

Question

I really wonder
what i should focus on. I got some money to spend but i don't know
what on. They say that outsourced articles are worth it and that you
can recup your investment quickly but that does not seem to be the
case. My backlink building is lacking severely, but im also
dissapointed, that you can write 250 Articles totalling at least
175,000 words and spending a ton on backlinks both in personal time
and outsourcing to make 50$ a month.

Clearly, i'm doing
it wrong. But how can i change that with what i got? Or would it be
better to start all over ?

Any advice would
be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your valuable time.
Time is running out here and i'm in desperate need for positive
change.

RE:
SEO is not fast, it is one of the (if not the) slowest method of making money.

Most of the time, it will take 6+ months for a domain to rank for any respectable keyword. If the keyword gets enough searches a day to bring enough traffic to your website (once it is on page 1), then it will not be easy or fast to rank for. There are those fluke times, where you can find a keyword that gets searched enough, and you can rank quickly for it. But as I said, it's rare.

So, anyone looking to make money fast doing SEO is dreaming.

You need to do proper keyword research. Your keywords should bring at least 100 people a day to your website. It is NOT worth ranking for any keyword if it doesn't bring you at least 100 people a day.

Judging by your post, you have not even done nearly enough SEO. I build 50-100 edu backlinks, about 20 gov backlinks, about 500 PR6 and higher backlinks, and about 2k PR2-5. I do not do them all in one day, but that is my first bulk group of backlinks I put on all my sites. I also build a link pyramid of about 15 sites on the 1st level, about 50 sites on the 2nd level that link randomly to the 1st. I then add about 10k profiles to all the urls in the pyramid. Then also the same with blog posts, about 10k blog posts. End result, my pyramid is all indexed and strong! I then focus on article, press release, wiki, social, web2.0 backlinks to the main site using awesome articles. I actually use about 5 different articles during that process. I also buy traffic to the sites, a couple hundred facebook likes and Google+1's. I continue to build backlinks and content monthly even after desired rankings are achieved.

And that is just for 1 site. Also, my sites have at least 100 indexed pages according to Google. 1 page sites usually don't rank better, and having a lot of pages help achieve higher pageranks.

RE:
If you own 15 sites, put your sites on flippa.com for sale one at a time, if your site sell for at least $100 each you can get $1500 and focus on one niche you love. I won't mess around with SEO, the web is changing to quality of engaging visitor than just content or SEO right now. Good luck.
