Okay the plugin worked (v1.0) with a made up email address and then I updated to the latest v1.02 and it appears to still be working. So in my experience, if you start off with version 1 then update it, it seems to work for fine, or at least it does for me anyway.

(If you're curious as to which version of wordpress I'm using, it's the latest 3.8.1)
