Clayton Makepeace - Rare informal interview
Not many of you have read this:

In 2007 Clayton Makepeace had a phone call interview with Stephen Davies of The Copywriter's Institute.

Stephen cut to the chase to ask the "legend" all the KEY things that a budding newcomer is dying to know.
  • How did Clayton himself get started?
  • Would he recommend the same path for others?
  • How long did he work for others before he went out on his own?
  • How do you know when you're good enough to go full-time?
  • If you're close to retirement age, is it feasible to go into copywriting?
  • How should you pick the niche you should start in?
  • Should a new copywriter work for all up-front money or some up-front + residuals?
  • What's the best way to figure the copywriting fees for your work?
  • How much time do you spend on research per job? (surprisingly valuable answer...)

... and plenty of other nuances that challenge professional copywriters on every project. Like how to get new copywriting clients starting from zero, as he did when he got fired (by an idiot- IMO).

Clayton explains exactly why you should have ZERO WORRIES about having a continuous demand for your services. And outlines the sure path to entering a niche which will only grow in value while you're maturing.

Interview (pdf)

This is absolutely timeless and VALUABLE info for anyone involved with writing copy. Have a good weekend.
